Whilst Albacete is a big transport, it doesn’t quite have the star appeal that other places in the region do. But it is a lively city with good shopping and a great tapas scene. As it’s also well connected by road, it can be a convenient place to explore more of the surrounding area from with an Albacete Station car hire. For nature lovers, highlights include the Lagunas de Ruidera Nature Reserve and Sierra de Alcaraz. And about an hour and a half west of Albacete, you’ll find Campo de Montiel, which has an important archaeological site.
There are some pretty towns not too far from Albacete that are also worth a visit. North-east of Albacete, Alcala del Jucar has a stunning location on the Jucar River and gorge. The town is much smaller than Albacete but has lots to offer tourists and makes a good alternative if you don’t want to stay in Albacete. As well as its hilltop castle, there are plenty of walking trails and river excursions on offer. Other towns close to Albacete include Chinchilla de Monte Aragon, which is just 20 minutes drive away. It boasts a 15th century castle and a very pretty historic quarter. And if you continue on the same road, you’ll find another impressive castle at Amansa.
Alicante Airport is the nearest international airport to Albacete and also offers car hire services including one-way rentals.
