I really enjoy travelling by train, particularly in Spain where the services are punctual, you get an assigned seat and the fares are so reasonable. Madrid Atocha Station is home to Spain’s growing network of high-speed train routes, which includes one to Alicante Station. From Madrid, you can reach Alicante in less than 2 and a half hours, which s pretty good given you’re covering around 420kms! Here, you’ll find our guide to collecting an Alicante Station car hire. This may be a convenient option if you’re travelling by train to the city or just looking for a city centre location to pick up an Alicante car hire.
The station was expanded with the introduction of the high-speed routes. Centrally located, Alicante Station is close to Plaza Luceros. It has good access to public transport with a number of city buses stopping right outside the station. You can also access Alicante’s tram network from Plaza de los Luceros, which is just a few minutes walk away from the front of the station. The marina and beach are about 20 minutes walk away.
On-site car hire: Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Alamo and Europcar
There are several car hire companies with an ‘on-site’ location at the station. This just means they are located within the station. They are: Avis and Budget (who share an office), Enterprise and Alamo (who share an office) and Europcar. If you’ve booked a National car rental, you need to go to the Enterprise/Alamo office. You’ll find the car hire desks close to the train platforms for the high-speed AVE trains. So if you’re arriving by train you can head straight to the relevant desk before going into the main concourse.
But if you’re already in the city and collecting an Alicante Station car hire, you don’t need to go inside the station to find them as the offices are located to the right of the station, close to where the taxi queue and car park is. This is the car park on the corner of Avenida Salamanca and Avenida Carrer Bono Guarner. You’ll likely spot the post office on the corner first.
There are a few more car hire companies who are located just a short walk from the station. They include: Hertz–Thrifty, Goldcar and Sixt. We’ve got more information on these further below.
Alicante Station parking
On-site car hires are conveniently parked in the station car park right outside the rental desks.

The car hire desks and parking are highlighted in the station map below. For more information on the station including the latest arrivals and departures as well as the full map with list of shops and cafes on the Adif website (Adif manage Spain’s railways).
Off-site car hire: Hertz/Thrifty, Goldcar and Sixt
Several car hire companies have an office a short walk from the station. They include Hertz–Thrifty, Goldcar–Rhodium and Sixt. You’ll find them across the road from the station along Avenida de la Estacion. The cars are parked in the underground car park on the same road.
