Malaga Station is one of several key train stations in Andalucia on Spain’s southern coast. It’s full name is Malaga Maria Zambrano Station and is located in Malaga’s commercial centre, close to the bus station. The train station hosts the high-speed AVE services to destinations including Madrid Atocha Station and Cordoba Station. Other mainline train services from the station include Sevilla Santa Justa Station.
Malaga has a commuter train network run by Cercanias, which also stops at Malaga Maria Zambrano. The commuter line also stops at Malaga Centro Alameda, which is a little closer to Malaga’s city centre. However, Malaga Centro Alameda only serves the commuter train. So if you want to take a high-speed or mainline train service, it’s Malaga Maria Zambrano you want!
It’s a big modern station, which is housed within the Vialia shopping mall. Facilities include cafes, restaurants, lots of shops, toilets, cash machines (ATMs), left-luggage lockers, car parking and car hire. It also boasts a cinema!

Malaga is the gateway to the Costa del Sol. Most visitors holidaying here arrive either at Malaga Airport or Malaga Station before continuing on to one of the many beach resorts on the coast. And a Spain car hire is the best way to get around!
Popular resorts along the Costa del Sol include Marbella, Fuengirola and Torremolinos, which you’ll find to the west of Malaga. And to the east of the city, you’ll find beach resorts including Nerja, Torre del Mar and Almuñecar. Malaga itself has a lovely beach. It’s a great place to stay if you’re looking for a good mix of city and beach life. Whilst Malaga is well catered to visitors, the city still feels like a typical Spanish city. Of course, beyond the coast, Andalucia has plenty more to offer. If you’ve got more time, other cities such as Granada, Seville, Ronda and Cordoba are well worth a visit.
The train station’s central location makes it a good location to collect a car hire if you’re already in the city. 10kms south of the city centre, Malaga Airport also offers a wide selection of car hire. It’s also worth bearing in mind many car hire suppliers offer one-way rentals within Spain.
