In this post, we guide you through the process of returning a car hire to Malaga Station, which is also known as Malaga Maria Zambrano. It’s the city’s main train and serves long-distance and high-speed routes as well as commuter routes in the Malaga province.
Returning a car hire to Malaga Station: central and easily accessible!
Centrally located, the train station is easily accessible from both the A-7 motorway and the N-340 road. It also has great transport links. In addition to the various train lines served at Malaga Maria Zambrano, it’s a key stop for a number of city buses. The city’s main bus station for long-distance and regional buses is also directly north of it. This all makes Malaga Maria Zambrano a great place to drop off a car hire if you’re planning to spend more time in the area or travel onwards from the station.
The train station is housed within the Vialia Shopping Centre and on-site car hires use Vialia Parking. We have more details, including geographical coordinates, on the car park further below. You can also find out more about Malaga Station including the services available at it by visiting the Adif website (Adif is the company that manages many of Spain’s train stations).
On-site car hire
The station is home to some of the best known car hire brands. They include: Hertz-Thrifty, Europcar, Avis-Budget and Enterprise-Alamo. If you have a car hire with one of these companies, you can return it to Malaga Station’s main car park. Several other companies have offices either close to the station or elsewhere in the city (for instance, Sixt and Goldcar both have offices close to the station). If you’ve got a car with another company, do check the booking information for details on how to return it.
Driving to Malaga Maria Zambrano
From the A-7: From the A-7, you should follow signs to the MA-20, the section of the A-7 around the city, and ‘Malaga (oeste)’. If you’re travelling southbound on it, you need exit 8 for ‘Centro Urbano’. If you’re travelling northbound on it, you need exit 7, which will also be for ‘centro urbano’. Both will lead you to ‘Avenida Andalucia’.
Once you’re on Avenida Andalucia, look out for small yellow signs to ‘Estacion Maria Zambrano’. Remember it’s right by the city’s bus station so signs to ‘Estacion autobuses’ will also lead you onto the right road. Here’s an example below of one of the yellow signs for the station from Google’s Street View.
You’ll be led onto Avenida de las Americas. Once there, take a right onto Calle Mendivil for the car park.
From the N-340:
As you approach Malaga’s city centre on the N-340, you should see signs for ‘Estacion autobuses’ and ‘Estacion FF.CC.’, which is for the train station. This is the turn-off you’ll need. It will take you onto Avenida Ingeniero Jose Maria Garnica, the road outside the front of the station. For the car park, turn left right after the station at Calle Mendivil.
Parking for car rental returns
As already highlighted, the station’s car park (either referred to as Maria Zambrano Parking or Vialia Parking) is on Calle Mendivil, which is the road that runs between the train station and the bus station. There are two entrances. For car rental return, you need Entrada 2. Once on Calle Mendivil, you’ll drive past Entrada 1 first so ignore that entrance! Entrada 2 is around 200m further down.
The geographical coordinates for the right entrance you need are: 36.712019, -4.434357.
After parking the car in a relevant space, there are lifts available to take you from the car park up to the station proper. The car hire desks are located right by the entrance to the train platforms.
